(Washington, D.C.)—-The accolades continue for U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC), who announced last year that he would retire following 30 years in Congress. The latest occurred on Thursday when Congressman Coble was named as the winner of the 2014 Capitol Hill Award from the National Bible Association.
At the weekly Congressional Prayer Breakfast, Rep. Coble was presented with the award by Richard Glickstein, president of the National Bible Association. The 15-term representative was nominated to receive the award by the House Chaplain, Rev. Patrick J. Conroy.
“Rep. Coble, on behalf of the National Bible Association, I want to present to you the 2014 Capitol Hill Award,” said Glickstein. “At the end of your illustrious and honorable career, performed with great moral character in the House of Representatives, it is fitting that Chaplain Conroy chose you to receive this award.”
President Glickstein presented Rep. Coble with a framed page from an historic Bible. “The Bible page in the award, Glickstein noted, “is from the First Edition of the 1611 King James Bible. The Bible chapter is II Chronicles 6. This is Solomon’s prayer of dedication after the completion of the Temple. Like Solomon, Rep. Coble, you have built a wonderful structure of political accomplishments that though your work is finished these accomplishments will live on to the glory of God.”
Several other members of the U.S. House, including fellow North Carolina Representative Virginia Foxx, were present for the ceremony.
