A recent Pentagon study has found that spiritual fitness can be the key to overcoming the trauma
of war. Military personnel who pursue a spiritual life have a greater ability to overcome the ravages
of PTSD. The military has zeroed in on physical and mental fitness to prepare our troops for war but
now they are finding that spiritual fitness is an important foundation for a soldier’s effectiveness and
resiliency.
If this is true about the military than it is also true about our civilian lives. You and I face the daily
struggle of the challenges of life. These are not in any way to the extreme that a soldier experiences
in war but life has its difficulties just the same. God’s word will prepare you for these struggles. It can
equip you to deal with the disappointments, challenges and failures that you experience on a daily basis.
We would all like each day to be a series of victories in work, family, relationships, and economics but
it just does not work that way. Spiritual fitness through the Bible will help you overcome the adversities
you face.
Why not be prepared to deal with life’s curve balls the most effective way possible by being spiritually
strong. The Bible is God’s handbook for transformative and overcoming living. Read it. Study it.
Memorize verses in it on a daily basis. Take advantage of the potential that is in its pages.
I want to leave you with a couple of verses of scripture to think about:
“for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds
promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” I Timothy 4.8
“They go from strength to strength; every one of them comes before God in Zion.” Psalm
84.7
