Last evening, I had the privilege with my family to attend a concert with Michael W. Smith. But calling it a concert is a misnomer. We had church! Michael brought along a 330 voice church choir and a symphony orchestra. The place was packed with 2800 people and Michael played a lot of his worship songs and a lot of us knew them. He encouraged us to sing along and sing along we did. What a night!

On the way into the hall, I pointed out to my kids Times Square which is 15 blocks south on Seventh Ave. You could see the entire area illuminated by the amazing neon lights and billboards from “The Great White Way”’ from ¾ of a mile away!

But I have news for you, the light emanating from all those hearts at the world- renowned Carnegie Hall as they worshiped God with Michael W. Smith leading them was far greater spectacle!

Jesus said of the people who follow God and the scriptures, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill.” Matthew 5.14-16

You couldn’t not see it with the naked eye last night. Planes landing and taking off from the area airports couldn’t look down and wonder what that enormous light was at 57th St and 7th Ave was but I can assure you that His light was shining there in the darkness as God was worshiped in that beautiful building.

Places of worship across the globe and “where two or three are gathered in my (his) name” (Matthew 18.20) are producing great light to guide the world out of its utter darkness.
