America has eclipse fever! Today is the day!
You can’t buy a pair of viewing glasses anywhere. Everybody is talking about the eclipse. One guy said to me, “They should have declared a national holiday today because nobody is going to be working.”
It’s great that this natural phenomenon has taken America by storm. TV programs, websites, 24-hour social media coverage. I have heard more about the eclipse lately than the national political scene. Bring on more eclipses!
Here’s my gripe though. We have this great enthusiasm for this astounding event in our solar system but we fail to give glory to the God who created it. How can you separate the created from the Creator? It’s like being mesmerized by a beautiful painting while knowingly standing next to the artist and totally ignoring him. That’s rude.
We want to experience the greatness of God’s creation; his seas, his waterfalls, his animal kingdom, his majestic mountains and glorious valleys but we don’t want to accept the fact that he is there and the author of it all.
In fact, the Bible says that. “his eternal power and divine nature have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.” Romans 1.20
Here is the root of the problem. If you accept the fact that God created the world then you have to accept the fact that God created the Bible. And if you accept that, then you have to accept what it says about you and me. And that ain’t pretty!
Look I don’t like the idea that I can’t find God on my own and that basically I had failed at following Him until I accepted Jesus. That’s hard to chew on. But I accept it and I am glad I have gotten past that. I totally enjoy knowing God through his precious son.
Think about this. If like me, you so enjoy nature; the majesty of the mountains, the beauty of a sunset over the ocean, the amazing scene of wildlife in a forest or the sight and sound of a waterfall, then contemplate for moment this thought, “If the artwork is so overwhelmingly beautiful, how much more amazing must the artist be?”
