I am an unabashed Yankee fan but I do root for the Mets, also. I’m a New York fan. But I must say when Houston beat the Yanks in the seventh game of the AL Championship Series, I was happy for Houston. The city needed it. They have gone through a devastating hurricane that still, a month later, wreaks havoc on their lives.

Don’t hate me LA. But I hope they win the whole thing. Nothing against the Dodgers, I like them. Curtis Granderson, who use to play for the Mets, is my favorite baseball player. When he played for the Mets, every home game, he was the only player who would sign autographs and take pictures with the kids and older fans after batting practice. He is a class act and I am so happy he is on such a great team. He took a picture with my son, a diehard Met fan, at a game, and he made his day. The smile on his face says it all.

Here is my point. Go out of your way to encourage somebody today. Say something or do something for them that will lift their spirits or make them laugh. Life is very tough. There is no way around it. A small gesture of kindness or encouragement does a lot for people. It gives them strength.

Winning the World Series will not help Houston change the disaster that happened. But winning the World Series will lift the collective spirit of this town and make the problem a tiny bit more bearable, even if it is only for a day or a week.

Go Astros!
