I went to visit my grandkids in Florida this past weekend. I told my son that he and his wonderful wife could find something to do and that I would spend the weekend with my three joys. He didn’t like that idea, so I had to be polite and spend time with him and my daughter in law too. Just kidding!
I opted to rent a hotel room on the beach instead of having a sleepless night at my son’s place with three kids and boy was that fun! The hotel was really nice to me, as they gave me a room 7 stories up looking out at the Gulf of Mexico. Wow! God did great work as a master architect when he created the world.
When I arrived at the hotel, I ran into the two managers and told them how much I appreciated the hotel and the setting. As the conversation continued in a meandering way, I was able to encourage one of them about her fear of bridges and how to overcome it. I said goodbye and went to my room.
A knock on the door about an hour later surprised me. My grandkids had already arrived with my son and his wife, so I wasn’t expecting anyone. I opened the door and a hotel employee handed me an attractive small shopping bag filled with candy! I opened the envelope with a card inside. It was from the two managers. It read, “Thank you for brightening our day!”.
I was not expecting such a wonderful gesture when I talked with these two women but receiving their gift really touched me. If you get a chance to say thank you to someone today, do it. It means a lot and I know for me, knowing that my words meant that much to these two people, helped me want to continue to encourage people. Be thankful and say it. Encourage people but also be thankful when someone encourages you.
By the way, my kids at home are devouring the candy. Maybe they should send a thank you note to the managers!
