Genesis 1.27– And God created man in His own image.
This is the most important statement made in the Bible about us. You and I are created by God and are like him.
Judaism and Christianity has the highest view of man of any of the world’s religions. The greatest being in the universe made us just like him. We are special, we are important and we have great value and purpose. That is why we must love one another. People are made in his image. He values them and so should we.
This is why we must value the unborn children. They are no less valuable than you or I. At conception, God declares that they are made in his image. They are unique human beings with unique qualities and characteristics. Devaluing those that are still in their mother’s womb devalues all of us. Either all of us are made in the image of God or none of us are. Aborting a child is saying, “You have no value.”
If God is the one who created us then he is the only being who can decide when our lives are to end. We have no right to decide this for the unborn children. Only God has this right to take a life. He gives life and only he can take it.
Valuing mankind in the highest manner because we are made in the image of God is a soaring triumph for the uniqueness of man. However, it also comes with the responsibility of protecting this God given right for all. And especially for those who cannot protect or speak for themselves.
