My son and his sister are away at camp. My daughter writes regularly and has beautiful handwriting.
My son, on the other hand (pardon the pun), borders on the hieroglyphics end of the hand writing spectrum. He told me the day before he left for camp, I assume to temper my expectations, that he would be sending me only one letter over the course of the month that he is away.
Well, he fulfilled that mission about two weeks into the camp experience. My wife and I excitedly opened his letter. It was like getting a letter from a long, lost relative. We were shocked that it came so early in the term. We had expected it to come closer to the day that he came home.
Reading it was another matter. It started off legible for about the first three sentences but it went downhill from there rather rapidly, picking up speed with each letter of the alphabet attempted. By the end of this said ”letter”, I told my wife that I thought he must have gotten tired of writing words and decided to switch to some type of Morse Code on paper. It looked to me like some form of secret communications employed by spies because we could not make words out of the marks. Of course, as parents, we were thrilled to receive this communications from him and we laughed out loud because of it!
Prayer works the same way. It’s like a camp letter. Some of us, like my daughter, are great communicators in prayer and do it regularly. When these people pray God knows exactly what they are saying and he responds appropriately. Others of us, are like my son, when we pray. It’s garbled, incoherent and messy. But I must tell you, God gets it. He is thrilled to receive it and I guarantee you, he will respond quickly and enthusiastically to what you say. And he will decipher what is not coherent and change your life.
If you are not praying, start today. If you are praying a little. Pray more! I was thrilled when my 11 yr old sent the prized one letter. How do you think God will react when you send your “camp letter” to heaven?
