I have the great privilege of visiting our Wounded Warriors on the Fourth of July at Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval Hospital. Words cannot fully describe the emotions I feel seeing and speaking with these great Americans. I am afraid that we as a nation are losing touch with the sacrifice and commitment that our heroes have made to preserve the great freedoms that you and I experience.

Riding on the train this morning with a friend of mine, we discussed this very issue and wondered aloud how do we impress upon ourselves and our children the cost of this sacrifice. July Fourth is a great day to reflect upon this. Two hundred and thirty five years ago a band of men and women much like the young men and women I will visit with at the hospitals, decided that no price was too great to pay for freedom and democracy. As I write this, I have decided to take my kids to one of the war memorials in DC while we are there to show them what this holiday truly means.

May God bless America!
