Matthew 5:5 — “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
This verse is part of Jesus’ famous Sermon on the Mount — a moment where He taught His followers what it truly looks like to live with God’s heart.
So what does “meek” actually mean?
It doesn’t mean weak, timid, or pushed around. Meekness is strength under control. It’s choosing humility over pride, patience over anger, and love over the need to always be right.
The meek person:
-
Listens more than they shout
-
Serves more than they demand
-
Trusts God more than they try to control everything on their own
Jesus says that those who live this way are blessed — not just someday, but right now. Why? Because meekness frees us from constant conflict and pressure to prove ourselves. It opens our hands so God can fill them with His purposes.
“They shall inherit the earth.”
This isn’t about owning land or becoming powerful in a worldly sense. Jesus is reminding us that God’s kingdom belongs to those who put Him first. The meek will one day experience the fullness of God’s promises — joy, peace, and a future that cannot be taken away.
A Simple Prayer
Lord, help me to be strong in You and gentle with others. Teach me to trust Your plan more than my own. Make my heart humble and my life a reflection of Your love. Amen.
